In 2004, RSBC developed Project Rivershed, to build community capacity, educate the public, and encourage conservation and stewardship of natural resources, especially salmon and water, in riversheds. The program encourages individuals and communities to reduce their ecological footprint (e.g. energy & water use) to sustainable levels. In 2006, we launched the Brunette Rivershed Demonstration Project, which was selected because of the tremendous work done to date, including planning, data gathering, restoration, profiling and stewardship activities in that rivershed. During an innovative and pioneering Fall series of workshops, led by our consultant, Real Living Solutions (now Visible Strategies) using their unique see-it™ organizing tool, community leaders were invited to develop a vision of sustainability for the Brunette Rivershed. From there a set of specific actions with measurable goals were identified in three cornerstones: healthy and diverse environment, economy and community. Currently, we are working with local organizations to build on existing plans and enhance work already underway to encourage sustainable living in the Brunette Rivershed. Over the next ten years, we aim to bring Project Rivershed to the people, communities and riversheds of the Fraser River Basin.
